New Year's Eve in Hawaii. Located at the acclaimed Banzai Pipeline. Swells reached 20+ feet that day. The local Hawaiian news warned of high waves, so I rented a car and drove an hour to the infamous beach! 50 to 100 surfers sat and waited for these giants to roll and crash through. Even more onlookers at the beach sat and watched surfers push themselves to get just a few more waves in as the sun went down. I spoke with a surfer from Peru and he said sometimes these waves even reach 40 feet. A truly amazing experience I'll never forget.
